Winner of the Neighbourhood Management Award for"Volunteer of theYear" P.R.I.D.E (Parents, Resources, Information, Drop-in and Enjoyment) This article has been removed by Jennifer Allinson's request and not as is being made out for any other reason by us. There was some objection which she refused to clarify as to us using the write up that Neighbourhood Management used as Jennifer Allinson's nomination which actually won her the award!.This article was placed on here because it was a positive affirmation of the work and people that help the Woodchurch and had been recognised at a national level. Once again we are not allowed to promote what should of been something to be proud of. If you are interested in what this was about ask Neighbourhood Management for further details as they write up and promote this group continually. S.N.A.P (Saturday Night Activies Programme) Kevin and Maureen Cain a husband and wife team started this project 3 years ago in response to the growing demand for somewhere that could pro-vide activities for the youths from the estate. They have over 143 young peo-ple on their register and most attend each week to enjoy a safe and stimu-lating environment, have fun and make new friends. The young people engage in arts/crafts cookery and sports with the fully qualified staff. There are places available for any young people to come and join as they have the whole of the sports centre, with plenty of the older youth mem-bers helping out. Positive behaviour is rewarded by having trips and fun days out, S.N.A.P are actively involved with community projects. S.N.A.P is on every week 6-8pm During 2008 Maureen ran the Blaze programme for young people on the estate aged 5 - 19, has been invited to be involved in this programme. The aim was to deter anti social behaviour against fire fighters when they are responding to incidents. |
Neighbourhood Management National Awards for:"Cleaner and Greener Innovation Award" Pemberton Organic Planters Garden Courses for the Woodchurch Estate - Life long and family learning services would consider running gardening courses on the Woodchurch Estate if they could be convinced there is a call for them. To do this we need to ask residents if this is a service they would like to try and secure for Woodchurch. Carol Seery from LA21who runs the organic planters at the community allotment on Pemberton Road can bring this to the Woodchurch if there are enough interested residents or design courses if the ones on offer where not what was required by interested residents. Carol's group are always looking for new members who would be made most welcome, and future courses could be run from the Pemberton site. There are plans to develop an adjacent piece of land on the existing site for a larger growing area as at present it is mainly raised beds. For further details contact Learner Support Team 630 5069 Textline 07902 319 173 We also want to say congratulations to Carol Seery and her dedicated group for being nominated and shortlisted for the enviromental issues. Better luck next year you deserved to win
