Saturday morning arrived dry and overcast, work started early for the Woodchurch T.R.U.S.T committee. We were also joined by LA21, Pemberton Organic Planters, Neighbourhood Management and Streetscene along with Dave Smith from the Pemberton Methodist Centre who all gathered with shovels at the ready.
As the traffic built up we had a lot of people honking their horns going past and also stopping to say hello and show their support. We had drinks, cakes and biscuits for the workers and anyone who stopped.
The reason that this roundabout was considered as a project is because it is one of the main entrances to the estate. At the present time regardless of what we actually need for this estate the only funding available to us has been environmental, so we looked at areas that could benefit from it. We are trying to get the other roundabout at the end of Home Farm Road done at a later stage as all the plans are in place. Most people we have spoken to like the idea of having a Christmas tree planted there, so we will have to see if it is feasible later on.
As you can see we had a good turn out so the work got carried out quickly, it’s going to be satisfying watching over the next few months as plants start to come through and the roundabout starts to develop a character of it’s own.
After all the work and clean up had finished it was back to the Pemberton Centre for a delicious lunch that our secretary Steph had prepared.
We really hope that you enjoy the results of the work that was carried out and see the difference every time you drive or walk by, it was a good day all round and enjoyable for everyone involved. Thanks to everyone who turned up we appreciate the time and effort that you gave us. Hope to see you all when we can get the other roundabout organised.
Local Labour MP Stephen Hesford and Stuart Whittingham Labour local election candidate for the Upton Ward whilst doing the rounds met up with some of the T.R.U.S.T members trying to sort the Houghton Rd roundabout out. Give them their due shirt sleeves rolled up and brandishing shovels both men bailed in to make short work of the job.
Our lads picked a day that most people chose to relax and enjoy the sun! but the more energetic members grabbed shovels, lawnmowers and headed down for some honest graft and yet again did a brilliant job.

Hanging Baskets fundraiser 12th June 09
Another glorious day dawned and our committee set up in front of the Methodist Centre on Pemberton Rd along with Neighbourhood Management and The Pemberton Organic Planters to get the hanging baskets ready for the day ahead. Carol Seery directed proceedings with her usual efficiency so work started at full throttle and stayed that way for the rest of the day as queues of people came to get their hanging baskets. Our new committee members really got thrown in the deep end and coped admirably, quite a few of us didn't get the opportunity to even get a drink as there was no time to breathe !
We would like to thank everyone who came along to support us even though the Woodchurch High School Fayre was on the same day, many managed to get to both events. Also special thanks to Roy who was on the other side of the estate making sure that no one missed out. Roy did a brilliant job on his own - in baking heat, the amount of traffic that stopped (including the odd bus!) and people who came over to see what was going on.
Apart from raising much needed running costs for the Woodchurch T.R.U.S.T we are trying to organise a trip or Charabang (as some people refer to it) to Burnley market, there are a number of people who have various health problems and disabilities who cannot normally attend events that have been organised in the past. We are in the process of trying to organise and raise the necessary funds as we need to include specialised care as well as the associated costs including meals- any donations would be gratefully received.

To The left: Residents Forum Chairman - Dave Sadler, in the middle: forming an orderly queue and to the right: Dougie Woods - Security and Crowd control. We tried to get a picture of Roy but we couldn't get past the fan club - we are NOT joking about that one !
Thanks to Stewart Whittingham from Labour Community Action Team for some of the pictures.
Last but not least Methodist Centre, Pemberton Rd Dave Smith , Wendy, and Barbara, ReachOut team Netty,Andy and Gill, Carol from LA21, Pemberton Organic Planters and Neighbourhood Management for funding this and to Jo and Shelia for their hard work and support. Apologies to anyone we have missed out.
